Range in state: Along the Eutaw Formation, which is along the Auburn to Montgomery and Selma road path.Geologic age: Mesozoic (245-65 million years ago).Genus, species, and phylum/class: Exogyra costata, Mollusca.Megalodon is known to have consumed fish, multiple species of whale, and even seals. It is the largest fish known, with a spectacular diet. Description of: The largest specimens measured 17.9 metres (58.7 feet) long.Range in state: Can be found south of Tuscaloosa in the state, with most shark fossils being found along the Auburn to Montgomery and Selma range.Geologic age: From the Miocene to Pliocene epoch (23-2.6 million years ago).Genus, species, and phylum/class: Otodus megalodon,Chordata, Class Chondrichthyes.Shark and ray teeth, including Megalodon.Other: A herd of ornithomimids was featured in the film Jurassic Park.“Ornithomimids are thought to have been the fastest dinosaurs and may have reached speeds exceeding 30 miles (48 kilometers) per hour.” Description of: They were most likely herbivores.Range in state: Few have been found, but you are most likely to find them in southern Alabama on the coastal plain.Geologic age: Lived during the Cretaceous Period (145-66 million years ago).Genus, species, and phylum/class: Ornithomimus, species unknown (possibly antiquus), Chordata, Class Reptilia, Superorder Dinosauria, Family Ornithomimidae.
